I think about life as being a bit like a river, with a current and a flow, in a direction that is determined by natural laws. As we navigate our way along this river, the main body of water can branch off into smaller streams going in different directions, but ultimately flowing back to the main body of water and the source. Similarly, the choices we make in everyday life can take us in different directions and we will have different experiences and learn lessons depending on the directions we choose. Most people will live their life floating along their own personal river, being pulled in the direction the current takes them.
When we practice witchcraft, we take control of our direction. Not content with simply floating, we swim, and we paddle, often against the current, gaining the ability to create new streams and pathways and choosing our direction. When we enter Demonic Pacts and build close relationships with spirits, we are entrusting that they will guide us in the direction that will allow us to live authentically and fulfil our purpose. Often, we ask for protection and guidance from them. As such, we must understand that their methods may take us by surprise but there is always a reason behind them. They may alter the river’s current and the direction of the wind to guide us along streams that we would not automatically choose. They may cause us to lose our paddle and feel abandoned, free floating towards murky waters when in fact, they have just diverted our route from heading straight for a treacherous waterfall that would have killed us. These events, which range from minor inconveniences to major disruptions and apparent catastrophes in our lives are what I consider ‘blessings in disguise’ from the spirit world.
I have lost count of the number of times that things haven’t gone to plan, only to soon discover that the plans I had, would have led to an unpredictable horror. The bad service in the restaurant that caused my family and I to leave early, narrowly missing flash floods and overturned trucks on the freeway that we would have collided with – had things gone to plan. The infuriating lack of available flights on the date I wanted to travel, which was the very date featured in local news soon after, in which the airport was on full lock down due to the presence of a suspected gunman.
I’ve learned to trust that when we have a purpose and we enter into a pact or spiritual agreement with ancient Gods and Goddesses to protect us on our journey, we are handing over some of the control and a great deal of trust in their influence over our life’s journey. As a result, there is a feeling of safety and peace in knowing that we are being guided and even the worst things in life, can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
